Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are controlled by the authority within the province relative to the application, while Express Entry takes some from the PNPs.
If the PNP program is managed by the Express Entry, an expression of interest will need to be submitted, allowing applicants to identify with others.
Eligibility Requirements for Canadian Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
The following candidate types are ideal for this program:
- Those that have previously sent the Express Entry an EOI and meet criteria for eligibility to a PNP program. These PNP programs choose the applicants based on qualifications or based on in-demand skills from the federal Express Entry pool.
- Working individuals or recently used a valid work visa to work in Canada
- In certain situations, members of the family may be sponsored through the PNP program, once requirements are met. However, just being a family member is not enough to qualify.
- Individuals with a connection to the specific province being applied for. For instance, formal job position through Canadian employer, province-based education, etc.
There are certain Provincial Nominee Programs managed by Express Entry, while others are managed by the province applied for. Express Entry based PNPs require applicants to send expression of interest prior to being placed in the prospective applicant pool.

OAlthough, there is a benefit of Express Entry managed PNPs. The applicants have the opportunity to be invited to Canadian Permanent Residence for the PNP program of choice, or another Express Entry governed program. Therefore, giving multiple chances to obtain a visa. Express Entry evaludates applicants based on various areas, including PNPs, Federal Skilled Worker program, Federal Skilled Trade Program, and Canadian Experience Class program.
